Knowles and Malisse Capture Doubles Title

The No.3 seeds Mark Knowles and Xavier Malisse have captured the 2011 Farmers Classic presented by Mercedes-Benz. The veteran team of Knowles/ Malisse defeated Somdev Devvarman and Treat Conrad Huey 7-6 (3), 7-6 (10) in just under two hours .

This is the first time Knowles and Malisse have played together on the ATP World Tour. The 39-year-old Knowles of the Bahamas picks up his 54th career doubles title and the 31-year-old Malisse of Belgium now has six.

It was homecoming of sorts for Knowles as he played collegiately at UCLA in 1990-1992. This year marks only the second time since he turned professional that he has played the event .

With his 54th title, Knowles moves to No. 16 on the ATP World Tour career doubles title leader board. He is now tied with, Jonas Bjorkman, Brian Gottfried, Paul Haarhuis and Sherwood Stewart.

This was the first Farmers Classic doubles final to feature four non-American players since 1996 when Marius Barnard and Piet Norval defeated Jonas Bjorkman and Nicklas Kulti.
